NAFDAC Warns Consumers On Using Cold & Flu Syrup

Nigerian consumers have been alerted of microbial contamination of Rompe Pecho brand of cold and flu suppressant. The United States Food and Drug Administration recently informed the public of the decision by Efficient Laboratories, Miami, Florida–manufacturers of the drug– to voluntarily recall them from the market.

These affected drugs include Rompe Pecho CF; Rompe Pecho EX; Rompe Pecho MAX; and Rompe Pecho DM.

According to the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), the manufacturers have not received any untoward report resulting from use of the drugs till date. It however warns “consumption of these specific lots could result in illness, [but] in rare circumstances”

“These products are used to treat symptoms of the flu and the common cold, and each are packaged in a box containing a bottle of the liquid product,” said NAFDAC in its public alert issue.

NAFDAC, also, urges consumers to visit their physicians once they observe complications from taking the drug.
