Awoda Kpakpando, a top management official of e-commerce store, QNet Infinity Millennial of Nigeria, has explained why the company charged its job seekers between N100,000 to N500,000.
The Ogun State based direct selling and e-commerce company, however, denied defrauding the jobseekers, saying: “They are expected to meet some targets, but some of them only paid half of their initial money and we told them to bring someone so that what they owed us could be cleared through the bonus they were supposed to get from referrals.”
Mr. Kpakpando explained further: “It was because they did not have the money when they came that we are having this kind of issue. We have promised to pay them (back) before the end of the year, but they are not ready to sign an undertaking at the police station.”
He, however, promised that the firm would refund the complainants all they lost.
PUNCH Metro had reported that some jobseekers alleged that officials of the company defrauded them of sums ranging from N100,000 to N500,000.
Some of the youths, who visited PUNCH Place, Magboro, said they were promised jobs and food with a weekly bonus of $225 if they met certain targets.
The complainants claimed that the officials only collected money from them without fulfilling the promises.
They also alleged that the company had been harassing them with policemen from the Ibafo Police Station.
The matter has now been lodged in the Ibafo Police Station who stormed the premises and asked everyone to report at the station.
According to the DPO, CSP Alabi Olusoji: “The company has promised to pay; I will ask the manager when he will be available so that he can sign an undertaking with them on when they will pay them their money. We will have a record of the undertaking.”
She said, “I am a mother and I know these people (victims) have suffered enough even though they are also greedy. I won’t allow them to be taken for granted.”
