NNPC, NIMASA issue public alerts on job scams

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has alerted the public against the activities of fraudsters advertising job openings in the establishment.

Garba Deen Muhammad, the spokesperson for NNPC Ltd said the company is not recruiting.

“Whenever the company intends to recruit, announcement will be made using our official website (www.nnpcgroup.com) , verified Twitter handle (@NNPCgroup), verified Facebook page (@NNPCgroup) and other credible media channels.

“Any information suggesting that #NNPCLimited is recruiting is false and should be disregarded, “ he stated.

Similarly, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) debunked claims it is recruiting.

The agency urged “the general public to utterly disregard such unfounded and false publication as it is a scam being perpetrated by fraudulent agents and persons to mislead and exploit the unsuspecting public.”

NIMASA added that the fraudsters behind the fake job advert “have also been known to contact innocent people through e-mail, social media and other forms of internet publication soliciting for payment, inducement, advance fees or other favours in exchange for employment. Victims stand the risk of extortion.

“NIMASA does not communicate employment vacancies through third party online channels, emails or social media platforms.

“Members of the public are hereby urged to treat with suspicion any such offerings and verify their claims in order not to fall prey to these scammers, as NIMASA has not designated any entity or persons to act on its behalf.”
